Display calibration (II)

By wimhendrix

OK so in the meantime I had a decent chance to calibrate my Eizo S2231 using the Eye-One Display2. It took me a couple of attempts to actually figure out how to set everything up properly in the “advanced mode” but it was worth it.

The before and after comparison revealed my display was set up to the blue-ish side of the spectrum. In fact I never noticed before and it never really bothered me but I’m happy the display is properly calibrated now. The only downside is that I need to redo some of my RAW processing on some pictures to get the color balance right again :-)

After calibrating the Eizo, I connected the Display 2 to my HTPC in an attempt to calibrate our Aurea LCD TV. Unfortunately I was not able to use the advanced mode again since the targetted luminance range allowed in the software was not big enough to accomodate the 400cd/m^2 output of the Aurea. I could tone down the Aurea brightness but I had to set it to a very low value to become in the range of the Display 2 software.

Anyway, I selected the native values for all fields in the advanced mode rather than setting some predefined target value. The end-result, despite this limitation, was spectacular. There was so much more detail in the dark areas, you cannot image. Could the default setting for the Aurea really be so far off?
